Is micro1 legit? Six things to confirm before you sign

micro1's data licensing program is real: it is run by an AI training data company, and as of October 11, 2026 it does offer to pay companies for their operational data. For an owner or CFO, that can turn years of procedures, customer records and project history into license revenue, provided you know who cleans the data, what rights you grant, and when the fee is final. If you searched "is micro1 legit" after a pitch, this checklist answers six questions from micro1's own pages and marks what they leave out. Desert Lakes Solutions represents the company selling its data, not the broker, and is not affiliated with micro1 or any other data broker. A data broker, in this market, gathers records from many businesses and supplies them to AI developers.

Looking for micro1 reviews as a trainer or candidate?

Many people searching for micro1 reviews were offered paid AI-training or contract work, a separate program from the company data deal. micro1 publishes a candidate experience tracker that showed a self-reported 4.34 out of 5 from 465,974 reviews as of October 11, 2026, and outside reviews are on Trustpilot. If a message about work looks wrong, confirm it with micro1 at [email protected] before sharing personal or payment details.

What micro1 data licensing offers companies

micro1 began in AI recruiting and moved into AI training data. TechCrunch reported a $500 million valuation in September 2025 and a gross annual run rate of $500 million in August 2026. Its data partnerships page is headlined "Monetize your company's operational data."

  • Who qualifies: operationally mature companies with 30+ employees, established documentation and high-quality operational data. US companies come first, then other Western markets, with documentation mainly in English.
  • What it buys: standard operating procedures, knowledge bases, internal documentation, customer relationship management (CRM) data, project histories and quality checks, plus decision-making patterns and human feedback on AI outputs.
  • What it says it pays: published tiers of $100k+, $500k+ and $1M+, based on "the quality, uniqueness, and value of the data provided." Its referral page gives $100K to $2M+ for approved data packages, and the payout estimator calls its result an indicative estimate, not a quote or binding offer.
  • How it starts: an assessment, an evaluation, a discovery call on data and privacy requirements, then a partnership agreement.

micro1 has also bid for company data in court. On September 3, 2026, in the Spirit Airlines bankruptcy, it filed notice of a $12.5 million cash bid for Spirit's de-identified (stripped of details that identify people) data, 25% above Google's $10 million winning auction bid (Chapter11Cases). It also offered commitments: excluding disciplinary, medical, leave and union records, barring re-association or profiling of employees, and giving a court-approved Data Review Ombudsman (an independent reviewer) a one percent sample of the de-identified data before any onward transfer. The approval hearing on the Spirit data sale has been moved to November 6, 2026 (Skift), after earlier being set for October 14 (The Next Web), and approval was still pending as of October 11, 2026, so check the court docket (the case's public filing list) for the ruling.

micro1 publishes Data License Master Terms, last updated October 7, 2026. They bind only through an executed Order Form (the signed deal sheet with your price and scope), which locks in the version posted on its effective date. Treat each answer below as what micro1 publishes today; your Order Form may change it.

1. Who removes identifying details from your company data, and when?

By its pages, micro1 does the cleaning, and after delivery. Its program FAQ says data is processed after it is shared, and personal information may be removed depending on the data. Section 1.4(a) of the Master Terms bars sublicensing for AI training until micro1 has taken reasonable technical and organizational measures to redact, anonymize or pseudonymize (swap for stand-in names) personal information. micro1's research page describes replacing real identities with consistent synthetic ones, with benchmark results that are micro1's own. Consistent stand-ins keep one person's records linked, so ask how the output is tested against your company's public footprint. Sections 1.4(c), 1.4(d) and 2.3 bar knowingly attempting to re-identify any person or specific customer in the anonymized data, meaning working out who they are from supposedly cleaned records; reverse-engineering your customer relationships; and disclosing you as the source without consent. Not stated: whether micro1 accepts an export you already cleaned, or whether company and customer names must come out.

2. What rights does micro1 get to your company data?

The license is broad. The program page says companies retain ownership, and section 2.2 says the data is licensed, not sold, though micro1 keeps all rights in derivatives and improvements of it. Section 1.2 grants micro1 and its affiliates a worldwide, royalty-free, nonexclusive, irrevocable and perpetual license, sublicensable through multiple tiers, covering synthetic versions and AI model training. As written, that means micro1 can use the data indefinitely, you cannot revoke the license once it attaches, and micro1 can pass the same rights to other companies, which can pass them on again; have counsel confirm how your Order Form changes that. It attaches only to data micro1 has accepted and paid for. The terms also refer to exclusivity provisions in the Order Form, so check yours.

3. When do you get paid, and when can money come back?

You get paid only after micro1 accepts the data. micro1 bears the cost of export and delivery, then has 30 business days after delivery to reject data, and silence counts as acceptance. Rejected data is not paid for. Under section 4.3, if micro1 decides in good faith that your Data Manifest, the description of what you are delivering, was materially inaccurate, or that you made any other material misrepresentation, it can terminate immediately with no cure period, pay nothing, and require a refund of amounts already paid. That right survives acceptance, and it also covers any other material misrepresentation, so the accuracy of your manifest is the part of this clause your side controls.

4. What happens to the data at the end?

micro1 deletes it at the earlier of 120 days after final delivery or termination. It does not have to delete or retrain the AI models it trained on data it accepted and paid for, or anything built from them, and copies in routine backups or kept as required by law are excluded. Either side may end the agreement on 30 days' notice.

5. What do you promise, and how is liability capped?

Your company warrants that it holds all rights to the data, has not licensed the same data to a third party on substantially similar terms, and has obtained every consent or legal basis needed to collect, transfer and use any personal information in it for AI training. Unless the Order Form says otherwise, you also warrant the data holds no protected health information (patient records covered by HIPAA, the US health privacy law), biometric data, payment card or financial account numbers, children's data or export-controlled data. You agree to cover micro1's costs for third-party claims tied to the data or to a breach of your promises in the agreement, including privacy and intellectual property claims; micro1 covers you for claims from its own use of the data outside the license. Each side's total liability is capped at three times the Order Form fees, except for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, and disputes go to private, one-on-one arbitration in California under JAMS rules (JAMS is a dispute-resolution firm), with California law governing.

6. Who is pitching you, and are they paid?

The person pitching you may be a paid referrer. micro1's company referral page offers up to $50,000 per company referral with no cap on payouts. Its referral terms let anyone 18 or older refer, apart from current or former micro1 employees and contractors and their households, and set the payout, where none is specified, at 7.5% of the license price paid to the company.

How Desert Lakes prepares your records before they leave

As written, micro1's terms put identifier removal on its side after delivery, while the consent warranties and the manifest refund clause stay on yours. Our data licensing preparation service works for the company: we inventory your systems, export them, remove or transform what identifies your people and your company, have a second person attempt re-identification, and hand you a written record and a description of the data you can check against your Data Manifest before anything goes out, with the evidence habits of our compliance practice. Frequently asked questions

Is micro1 a scam?

No. micro1 is a real AI training data company, and its data partnerships program offers to pay companies for their operational data. Whether a deal is safe for your company depends on what leaves, who removes identifying details, and the Master Terms and Order Form you agree to, so read those before you reply.

How much does micro1 pay for company data?

As of October 11, 2026, micro1 publishes tiers of $100k+, $500k+ and $1M+, and its referral page gives $100K to $2M+ for approved data packages. It says pay depends on the quality, uniqueness and value of the data, and the final price is set in the Order Form.

Does micro1 own our data after we license it?

micro1's program page says companies retain ownership of their underlying data. Its Master Terms also grant micro1 a perpetual, irrevocable license it can sublicense through multiple tiers, including for AI training, and models built from accepted, paid data do not have to be deleted. Have counsel read both before you sign.

Does micro1 de-identify our data before it leaves our company?

Not as written. micro1's program FAQ says data is processed after it is shared, and its Master Terms require micro1 to take reasonable technical and organizational measures to redact, anonymize or pseudonymize personal information before sublicensing it for AI training. Neither says whether micro1 accepts an export already cleaned on your side, so ask before you scope the delivery.
