Tabletop exercise
A discussion-based rehearsal where a team walks through their response to a realistic scenario.
No systems are touched. The team talks through a scenario step by step, which surfaces the gaps quickly: nobody knows who authorizes payment of a ransom, the contact list is out of date, the plan assumes email is working.
A few hours once or twice a year finds problems that would otherwise be discovered at the worst possible time, and most frameworks expect evidence that it happened.
