Oversharing

Files and sites shared far more broadly than intended, usually through links that grant access to anyone in the organization.

It accumulates through ordinary helpfulness. Someone shares a folder with everyone to unblock a colleague, the project ends, and the permission remains. Multiply that across years and most staff can reach far more than anyone realizes.

It is largely invisible until something surfaces it, which is why Copilot deployments so often turn into permissions projects. The AI does not create the exposure, it makes the existing exposure easy to find.

Where this comes up

Oversharing sits inside our microsoft 365 and cloud work. If you are trying to work out what this means for your own environment rather than in the abstract, that is the page worth reading next, and a short call will get you a straight answer faster than either.

Want this explained against your own setup?
