ChatGPT Business and Enterprise
Strength: a very good general assistant, custom GPTs, and no requirement that you live in Microsoft 365. OpenAI does not train on Business or Enterprise workspace data by default. Weakness: it does not inherit your SharePoint or Gmail ACLs. Staff still have to upload or paste. Gemini for Workspace
Strength: it is in the Google apps your team already uses, and Google folded the old Gemini add-ons into Business and Enterprise Workspace editions. Weakness: it does nothing for a Microsoft 365 tenant. If you are not on Workspace, skip it. If you are, do not pay for Copilot hoping it will read Gmail.
Claude for Work
Strength: teams that already like Claude, plus Claude Code for technical staff. Team is listed at $20 per user per month billed annually. Enterprise adds a seat fee and usage at API rates. Weakness: same class of gap as ChatGPT. It is not inside your Microsoft 365 permission boundary unless you build that. The local option

- What stack holds the work? Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, neither, or both.
- What is regulated? If yes, prefer the in-tenant assistant or local, and ban personal consumer chat accounts for that data.
- How many seats, and who? Pilot a role, not the directory. Copilot Business-family SKUs cap at 300 seats.
- Do you need chat, in-app help, or automation? Those are three different purchases. Mixing them into one "AI budget" produces a tool nobody uses well.
